We came in this morning to discover that the tech gremlins had definitely come to visit during the holiday break. We were 30 minutes late on getting our Sunday morning rehearsal started due to technical issues. We finely got everything up and running and finished our rehearsal.
Immediately after rehearsal I went to the sound booth to discover that the media computer was running very slowly, blacking out and unable to play our weekly announcement video (The Buzz). The computer techs worked to try to solve the problem, with only a few minutes left until start time I went down to get ready to start service.
I did a welcome and we started “Awesome is the Lord” got half way through the first verse and I realized that the announcement video was frozen on the screen behind me where the lyrics should have been displayed. So I just gave vocal lead ins before each line so people would know what to sing. Thank God this was not a new song. People are pretty familiar with it so we got through it fine.
Name above all names ~ By this time the words were displayed, thank God. This song is a favorite of our church and people usually respond really well to it.
None but Jesus ~ One of my personal favorite songs to lead. I love singing the words “There is no one else for me, none but Jesus. Crucified to set me free, now I live to bring Him praise”.
Turn Your eyes Upon Jesus ~ We transitioned straight into this one from “None but Jesus”, the two work really nicely together.
What a Friend I’ve found ~ It’s been a long time since we brought this one out. The acoustic guitar part on this song is beautiful. I could really hear the congregation singing out, I love to hear that.
Even though we had a lot of technical difficulties getting started this morning, we had an awesome time worshiping God. Today was one of those days that I really wanted to go on worshiping all day.
Our lead Pastor was out of town on vacation so my husband preached today. He delivered an awesome message titled Savior. It was a great sermon leading into the new year.

Today I feel completely honored, amazed and humbled at the privilege of leading God’s people in worshiping Him. I can’t believe I get to do this, there is absolutely nothing I would rather do!

Today started out pretty crazy…… early this morning we received a call from our senior pastor letting us know that he was sick with a really bad case of the stomach flu and would be unable to make it. So we got our elders along with my husband who is the youth pastor to fill the spots in our service order that Pastor Shawn would normally fill. Then I received a text from our pianist who was supposed to play for the communion solo (O holy night) saying that she was also sick with stomach flu and would not make it. So we had two of our acoustic guitarist play and it was amazing they did an awesome job! Then we had to call for our back-up reader for the scripture readings during the cantata because the lady who had originally planned to read was also sick. On top of all the sick members we had some major technical difficulties with the pc audio for the two videos we were planning to show but with the help of our resident computer genius our pc audio was working perfectly for service. Then right in the middle of service we heard a loud pop, one of our spotlights on stage malfunctioned and blew up. It had to be unplugged in the middle of communion to prevent fire. I thank God that with all the technical difficulties and sickness that came our way today, we still had an amazing service! God is good and His strength is made perfect in our weakness! After service we had a time of fellowship with all kinds of homemade Christmas cookies, candy, hot apple cider, hot cocoa, treat bags for the kids and pictures with Santa. All in all it ended up being an awesome day!

Reading ~ Luke 2:8-14

Earlier in the week I really struggled with which Christmas song to sing mainly because of the whole story song feel that carols have and the lack of vertical worship lyrics. I wasn’t sure where I stood love doing them or hate doing them. As I thought on this, read many posts along this line and spent time in prayer concerning this, I came to realize that I really feel Christmas songs should be a very important part of our worship sets. I mean seriously they tell the story of the birth of our Savior, He was born to die so that we might live. This is something that should definitely be celebrated and sung about.

Our focus in worship today was “Glory to God in the Highest” and “Jesus the Hope of the world”.

God of Ages ~ The lyrics of this song went well with our theme, it speaks of both His glory and Him being our Hope.
Sing to the King ~ This is always a favorite of our church.
Silent Night ~ Before we went into this song I talked briefly about how the Christmas songs are an important part of our Christian heritage. I encouraged the congregation to focus on the words of the song and with a grateful heart to thank Him that He was born to die for us.
Scripture Reading ~ Luke 2:8-14

One Like You ~ This was our first time doing this one. It fit perfectly with our theme and with the Christmas season although it’s not a Christmas song. The chorus of the song says “Glory to God in the highest join with the angels and sing. It’s a beautiful original song by Church of the Harvest in OKC. If you haven’t heard it you can check it out by clicking on the title above. It is one we will definitely do again.

Hallelujah our God reigns ~ This song is always received very well. It is so simple people can really get lost in worship.

Sunday Set-list ~ December 7, 2008

December 7, 2008
  • Everyone ~ C ~ Desperation Band
  • You, You are God ~ C~ Gateway
  • You gave Your life away ~ C ~ Paul Baloche
  • O come let us adore ~ C ~ Christmas Carol
  • Offering w/Christmas verse ~ C ~ Paul Baloche
Today everything went smoothly. Our entire set was in the key of C so this made for easy transitions. We tried something new today, we had one of our band members who wasn’t scheduled to play, sit in the congregation with a headset on and communicate with the sound techs about mix and levels during worship. Our sound booth is in the balcony so it can be hard for them to tell what it sounds like on the lower level. Several people commented that the mix was great so apparently this proved effective.
Everyone & You, You are God ~ Both of these are staples for us.
You gave Your life away ~ This is a great worship song. The lyrics are very simple yet powerful. The congregation really seems to engage in this one.
O come let us adore ~ We went straight into this one from “You gave”. We left out the verses and did three of the choruses (O come, He alone is worthy, We’ll give You all the glory). I love this Christmas song because its one of the few that is very worshipful.
Offering Christmas Version ~ This is a very familiar song for us but it was the first time we’ve ever done the Christmas verse. I like this verse it’s unfortunate that it’s only done once a year.

Sunday Set-List ~ November 30, 2008

November 30, 2008
  • My Reward ~ A ~ Paul Baloche
  • Your Name ~ E ~ Paul Baloche
  • How great is our God ~ E ~ Tomlin
  • How great Thou art ~ E ~ Hymn
  • Overcome ~ E ~ New Life

Today was awesome! We had an incredible time worshiping God! It was one of those days when we all felt like we could have just sang all day. The focus of our worship this week was “The Name” and the “Greatness of God”.

My Reward ~ Today was our first time doing this song, the congregation seemed to catch on to it pretty well. I think it will definitely be one we keep in the rotation for a while.

Your Name ~ We transitioned from the chorus of “Your Name” straight into the bridge of “How Great is our God”. It was a great transition musically and I really liked it lyrically going from “Nothing has the power to save, but Your Name” into “Name above all names, You are worthy”.

How great is our God ~ We did the bridge and chorus only and transitioned right into the chorus of “How great Thou art”.

How great Thou art ~ We sang through the chorus twice and then back into the chorus of How great is our God.

Overcome ~ This is one of our favorite songs right now. It is a very powerful song. Its definitely one to consider adding to your rotation if its not already on  your list.
